nārāyaṇaḥ paraṃ brahma gītā-śāstre samīritaḥ ||
“The message of the Bhagavad Gītā is:
The vision of the lord is certain through
singular devotion developed by honouring ones Dharma
in a spirit that leads to clarity and detachment.”
jñāna-karmātmike niṣṭhe yoga-lakṣye susaṃskṛte |
ātma-anubhūti-sidhy-arthe pūrva-ṣaṭkena codite ||
“The first six chapters of the Gītā
deal with Karma and Jñāna that
reveal the true nature of oneself.”
madhyame bhagavat-tattva yātha-ātmya-avāpti siddhaye |
jñāna karma-abhi-nirvartyo bhakti-yogaḥ prakīrtitaḥ ||
“The next six chapters emphasise that
devotion is the basis for seeing the truth.
This truth is, the Lord.
But devotion must grow from following ones duty
in a spirit of selflessness and search.”
pradhāna-puruṣa-vyakta-sarva-īśvara-vivecanam |
karma-dhīr-bhaktir-iti-ādiḥ pūrva-śeṣa-antima-uditaḥ ||
“The last six chapters present the
three fundamental entities:
Prakṛti, Puruṣa and Īśvara.
What is most vital to a person
for everlasting happiness is to
understand the nature of consciousness
and the Lord and his creation.”
asthāna-sneha-kāruṇya-dharma-adharma-dhiyā-ākulam ।
pārthaṃ prapannam-uddiśya śāstra-avataraṇaṃ kṛtam ॥
“The Bhagavad Gītā is addressed to those seekers
who are suffering because of lack of clarity with
regard to friendship, compassion and Dharma.”
nitya-ātma-asaṅga-karmehā-gocarā sāṅkhya-yoga-dhiḥ ।
dvitīye sthita-dhī-lakṣā proktā tan-moha-śāntaye ॥
“Then what is required is the clarity
that is stable in the midst of provocation
and the ability to do ones duty
with complete dedication,
without insisting on results.”
asaktyā loka-rakṣāyai guṇeśu-āropya kartṛtām |
sarva-īśvare vā nyasya-uktā tṛtīye karma-kāryatā ||
“Action is best performed when
it is for the good of the society,
with the spirit of dedication to the lord
and with freedom from the attitude of
being the doer and the beneficiary.”
prasaṅgāt-sva-svabhāva-uktiḥ karmaṇa-akarma-tāsya ca ।
bhedā jñānasya māhātmyaṃ caturtha-adhyāya ucyate ॥
karma-yogasya saukaryaṃ śaighryaṃ kāścana tad-vidhāḥ ।
brahma-jñāna-prakāraḥ ca pañca-mādhyāya ucyate ॥
yoga-abhyāsa-vidhiḥ yogi caturdhā yoga-sādhanam ।
yoga-siddhiḥ sva-yogasya pāramyaṃ ṣaṣṭa ucyate ॥
sva-yāthātmyaṃ prakṛtyāsya tirodhiḥ śaraṇāgotiḥ ।
bhakti-bhedaḥ prabuddhasya śraiṣṭhyaṃ saptama ucyate ॥
aiśvari-akṣara-yāthātmya-bhagavat-caraṇa-arthinām ।
veda-upādeya bhāvānam aṣṭame bheda ucyate ॥
sva-māhātmyaṃ manuṣyatve paratvaṃ ca mahātmanām ।
viśeṣo navame yogo bhakti-rūpaḥ prakīrtitaḥ ॥
sva-kalyāṇa-guṇa-anantya-kṛtsna-svādhīnatā-matiḥ ।
bhakti-utpatti-vivṛddhi-arthā vistīrṇa daśa-moditā ॥
ekādaśe sva-yāthātmya-sãkṣāt-kāra-avalokanam ।
datta-muktaṃ vidi-prāptyor-bhakti-eka-upāyatā tathā ॥
bhakteḥ śraiṣṭyam-upāya-uktir-aśaktasya-ātma-niṣṭhatā ।
tat-prakāra-astu-ati-prītir-bhakte dvādaśa ucyate ॥
dehasvarūpamātmapti-heturātmaviśodhanam ।
bandhahetur-vivekaḥ ca trayodaśa udītyate ॥
guṇabandha-vidhā teṣāṃ kartṛtvaṃ tannivartanam ।
gatitraya-svamūlatvaṃ caturdaśa udīryate ॥
acinmiśrādviśuddhācca cetanāpuruṣottamaḥ ।
vyāpanādbharaṇātsvāmyadanyaḥ pañcadaśoditaḥ ॥
devāsura-vibhāgokti-pūrvikā śastravaśyatā ।
tattvānuṣṭhāna -vijñānasthemne śodaśa ucyate ॥
aśāstramāsuraṃ kṛtsnaṃ śāstrīyaṃ guṇataḥ pṛthak ।
lakṣanaṃ śāstra-siddhasya tridha santadaśoditam ॥
īśvare kartṛtā-buddhiḥ sattvopādeyatāntime ।
svakarma-pariṇāmaḥ ca śāstrasārartha ucyate ॥
karmayogastapastīrtha-dāna-yajñādi-sevanam ।
jñānayogo jitasvāntaiḥ pariśuddhātmani sthitiḥ ॥
bhaktiyogaḥ paraikānta-prītya dhyānādiṣu sthitiḥ ।
trayāṇāmapi yogānāṃ tribhiranyonyasaṅgamaḥ ॥
nityanaimittikānāṃ ca parārādhana-rūpiṇām ।
ātmadṛṣṭestrayo’pyete yogadvāreṇa sādhakaḥ ॥
niraṣṭanikhilṣtānajñāno dṛṣṭvātmānaṃ parānugam ।
pratilabhya parāṃ bhaktiṃ tayaivāpnoti tatpadam ॥
bhaktiyogastadarthī cetasamagraiśvarya-sādhakāḥ ।
ātmārthī cettrayo’pyete tatkaivalyasya sādhakāḥ ॥
ekāntyaṃ bhagavatyeṣāṃ saṃanamadhikārīṇām ।
yāvatprāpti parārthīcet tadevātyātyantamaṣnute ॥
jñāni tu paramaikānti tadāyattātmajåvanaḥ ।
tatsaṃśleṣa-viyogaika-sukhaduḥkhastadekadhiḥ ॥
bhagavaddhyāna-yogokti-vandanastuti-kirtanaiḥ ।
labdhātmā tadgataprāṇa-manobuddhīndriyakriyaḥ ॥
nijakarmãdhi bhaktyantaṃ kuryãt-pråtyaiva kãritaḥ ī
upāyatāṃ parityajya nyasyeddevetu tāmabhiḥ ॥
ekāntātyanta-dāsyaikaratistat-padamāpnuyāt ।
tatpradhãnamidaṃ śāstramiti gitārtha saṃgrahaḥ ॥
