Yoga Sūtra Chapter Three verse 43

बहिरकल्पिता वृत्तिः महाविदेहा ततः प्रकाशावरणक्षयः ॥४३॥

bahiḥ akalpitā vṛttiḥ mahā-videhā tataḥ prakāśa-āvaraṇa-kṣayaḥ ||43||

External non-imaginary fluctuation is the great discarnate,
hence the covering of the light diminishes.

Commentaries and Reflections

Commentary by S Ramaswami:

“You can imagine you are outside the body.
When by practice of Saṃyama it becomes a fact, then one becomes as a great discarnate.

Here the bodily sense is overcome.

Also by this Saṃyama the obstruction to a Sattvic state is removed .
This obstruction exists in the form of hindrance, action, fruit, deposit leading to further Kleśa, Karma, Vipāka, Āśaya.
Whereas in III. 38 or in IV. 4, where the mind can get into another body, here one can remain without a body in the form of the Liṅgaśarīra or subtle body.”
