Commentary by S Ramaswami:
“The cause of change in sequence is due to Pariṇāma of the Dharmīn.
I.e One thought follows another, the cause Hetu of this is the Pariṇāma of the substratrum.
The change in the sequence is the reason for the differentiation in the transformations.
When the clod of earth becomes a pot, the character of the pot is the sequence of the character in the clod. This is the sequence of characteristic.
Similar is the case of temporal character and states.
Present is the sequence of the future and past is the sequence of the present.
This is the sequence of symptoms.
When a new pot is called old, without losing its symptom of being existent and there is no change of characteristics, it is said to have undergone a change of state.
Change of location is also a change of state.”
