Sāṃkhya Kārikā verse 48

bhedaḥ tamasaḥ aṣṭavidhaḥ mohasaya ca daśavidhaḥ maha-mohaḥ | tāmisraḥ aṣṭādaśadhā tathā bhavati aṅdhatāmisraḥ ||

bheda - divide, piercetamas - obscuring; mental darkness, ignorance, illusion, error; deprived of the eye's light or sight; darkness, gloomaṣṭavidha - eight fold; of eight kindsmoha - delusion; error; darkness or delusion of mind; to say anything that leads to error, to fall into errorca - anddaśavidha - of ten kinds; tenfoldmahā - greattāmisra - darkness; the dark half of the month; indignation, angeraṣṭādaśa - eighteentathā - so, like, after that manner.bhava - re-emerge; coming into existence; birth; productionandhatāmisra - utter darkness; complete darkness of the soul
