Sāṃkhya Kārikā verse 44

dharmeṇa gamanam ūrdhva gamanam adhastād bhavati adharmeṇa | jñānena ca apavargaḥ viparyayāt iṣyate bandhaḥ ||

dharma - essential qualities, according to the nature of anything; highest duty; customary observance or prescribed conductgamana - travelūrdhva - upwards, towards the upper part; aloof, aboveadhas - below, downtad - that, thisbhava - re-emerge; coming into existence; birth; productionadharma - unrighteousness; injustice; irreligion; what is not right or natural; or not in accordance to śāstrasjñāna - knowing; knowledge; higher knowledgejñāni - one who knowsca - andapavarga - completion, end; the emancipation of the soul from bodily existence, exemption from further transmigrationviparyaya - wrong perception, misapprehension, error, mistake; intrinsic misconception; reversed, inverted, perverse, contrary toiṣyate - is said to be; known thus; is accepted as; is considered to bebandha - fixing, directing; binding, tying, a bond, tie, chain, fetter
