Sāṃkhya Kārikā verse 40

pūrva-utpannam asaktaṃ niyatam mahat ādi sūkṣma-paryantam | saṃsarati nirupa-bhogaṃ bhāvaiḥ adhivāsitaṃ liṅgam ||

pūrva - eastward, to the east of; in front, before; former, prior, preceding, previous to, earlier thanutpannā - arisesasakta - free from ties, independent; unattached or indifferent toniyata - Fixed, permanent, constant, steady; always, constantly, decidedly, inevitably, surelymahat - great principle; intellectual principleādi - in the beginning, at first; beginning, commencement; a firstling, first-fruits; beginning with, and so on; and the restparyanta - to the end of, as far as; from one end to the other;sūkṣma - subtle; atomic; intangiblesaṃsāra - going or wandering through, passing through a succession of statesnirupa - non-formingbhogā - worldly experience; enjoyment, eating, feeding onbhāva - becoming, being, existing, occurring, appearanceliṅga - manifest; sign; gender
