Live Small Group Yoga Practice & Yoga Texts Modular Overview

– Search your Heart in The Quest for Relationship with the Beyond

Another important text allied to my inquiry into and around Yoga that I was privileged to be able to study word by word, Śloka by Śloka along with the commentaries of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar, within the intimacy and vitality of private lessons over 4 years of visits to Chennai, was the Bhagavad Gītā.

“How is it that we fail to to act right, see right, communicate right,
even though we have all the resources?
What are the indications of this failure?
What indicates that all is well?
Arjuna of the Indian epic Mahābhārata represents
the model of what clouds our consciousness

and what can break this cloud.”
– TKV Desikachar

Still to this day people in India within every sphere of life, from physicians to politicians and religious teachers to shopkeepers, consider the Bhagavad Gītā  to be a great source of inspiration.

What is it that makes it a teaching for all these situations and what is its relationship with Yoga? Furthermore, can the Teachings in the Bhagavad Gītā be related to our Western minds and attitudes?

These questions will form the base from which an exploration of the fundamental principles within the Bhagavad Gītā and its links with Yoga and especially the Yoga Sūtra will be explored.

The Art of Gītā Scripture Workshop Module One

The Art of Gītā Scripture Module One Personal Sādhana Workshop is limited to a maximum of five students to allow for a personalised approach and in-depth transmission between teacher and student. It introduces the student to a weekend workshop on the primary principles and teachings from T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar on the Bhagavad Gītā.

Based in the Cotswolds, it is a 2-day workshop open to all and offers an opportunity for a student from any Yoga background or style to have an in-depth introduction to the Bhagavad Gītā, either for personal development or, if relevant, professional skills.

“Jñānam is the wisdom of ‘I am that’.
Vijñānam is the discernment of ‘I am not this’ ‘I am not that’.”
– Bhagavad Gītā Chapter Seven verse 2

Complete in itself, it offers an opportunity for a student from any Yoga background or style to experience an in-depth introduction to the Bhagavad Gītā Scripture. As well as being a sound overview of the context and theme of each of the eighteen chapters of the Bhagavad Gītā. A Gītā study workbook with a verse-by-verse index for each chapter is included as part of the Workshop Manual for all participating students.

In addition, to support the teaching of this important text we will also be using selected verses from the Gītārtha Saṃgraha of Śrī Yāmunācārya. This is an important commentary on the Bhagavad Gītā which very succinctly summarises each of its eighteen chapters into eighteen verses. A relevant verse-by-verse reference will be provided as part of the workshop manual to help with our study.
