Online 121 Yoga Techniques & Textual Theory eStudy Modular Overview

– Search your Heart in The Quest for Relationship with the Beyond

Another important text allied to my inquiry into and around Yoga that I was privileged to be able to study word by word, Śloka by Śloka along with the commentaries of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar, within the intimacy and vitality of private lessons over 4 years of visits to Chennai, was the Bhagavad Gītā.

Still to this day people in India within every sphere of life, from physicians to politicians and religious teachers to shopkeepers, consider the Bhagavad Gītā  to be a great source of inspiration.

“How is it that we fail to to act right, see right, communicate right,
even though we have all the resources?
What are the indications of this failure?
What indicates that all is well?
Arjuna of the Indian epic Mahābhārata represents
the model of what clouds our consciousness

and what can break this cloud.”
– TKV Desikachar

What is it that makes it a teaching for all these situations and what is its relationship with Yoga? Furthermore, can the Teachings in the Bhagavad Gītā be related to our Western minds and attitudes?

These questions will form the base from which an exploration of the fundamental principles within the Bhagavad Gītā and its links with Yoga and especially the Yoga Sūtra will be explored.

Online 121 Art of Gītā Scripture eStudy Module One

This particular Module One consists of nine 121 live video 50′ meetings to facilitate a personalised approach and in-depth transmission between teacher and student.

It introduces the student, through an online teaching dialogue, to the primary principles and essential teachings from T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar within the Bhagavad Gītā.

“Jñānam is the wisdom of ‘I am that’.
Vijñānam is the discernment of ‘I am not this’ ‘I am not that’.”
Bhagavad Gītā Chapter Seven verse 2

The online Art of Gītā Scripture – Module One reflects the teachings of TKV Desikachar and his father and teacher T Krishnamacharya as taught to Paul Harvey over 25 years through:

  • Guidance in emphasising a personal reflective study to support your life.
  • Understanding the principles that inspire and inform Yoga teachings.
  • An overview of primary Bhagavad Gītā concepts around body and mind.
  • Familiarisation with basic Bhagavad Gītā terms and practice techniques.
  • Appreciating how chanting the Gītā can aid their absorption and deepen our understanding.
  • Deepening the reflective aspects of our personal practice with the Bhagavad Gītā.

To present a view of the Bhagavad Gītā through which students can support and develop their own Yoga Sādhana and deepen their appreciation of the possibilities for the Gītā in their lives. A Gītā study workbook with a chapter-by-chapter index is included as part of the Course Manual for all participating students.

As well as being a sound overview of the context and theme of each of the eighteen chapters of the Bhagavad Gītā, it offers an in-depth approach to the Bhagavad Gītā, through an experiential appreciation of the core teachings that underpin the Art of Gītā Scripture, either for personal development or, if relevant, to enhance professional skills..

It is also a prerequisite to further work through:

– the Online 121 Art of Gītā Scripture eStudy Modules Two to Four

– or the Live Small Group Art of Gītā Scripture Modules Two to Four Courses.

In addition, to support the teaching of this important text we will be using selected verses from the Gītārtha Saṃgraha of Śrī Yāmunācārya. This is an important commentary on the Bhagavad Gītā which very succinctly summarises each of its eighteen chapters into eighteen verses. A relevant verse-by-verse reference will be provided as part of the workshop manual to help with our study. As such it will be an invaluable support for the study of the Gītā.

Online 121 Art of Gītā Scripture eStudy Module One topics offer over 7.5 hours through:

  • Exploring some key concepts that underpin this Teaching.
  • How the eighteen chapters are linked.
  • What are the key concepts in each?
