Another important text allied to my inquiry into and around Yoga that I was privileged to be able to study word by word, Śloka by Śloka along with the commentaries of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar, within the intimacy and vitality of private lessons over 4 years of visits to Chennai, was the Bhagavad Gītā.
“How is it that we fail to to act right, see right, communicate right,
even though we have all the resources?
What are the indications of this failure?
What indicates that all is well?
Arjuna of the Indian epic Mahābhārata represents
the model of what clouds our consciousness
and what can break this cloud.”
– TKV Desikachar
Still to this day people in India within every sphere of life, from physicians to politicians and religious teachers to shopkeepers, consider the Bhagavad Gītā to be a great source of inspiration.
What is it that makes it a teaching for all these situations and what is its relationship with Yoga? Furthermore, can the Teachings in the Bhagavad Gītā be related to our Western minds and attitudes?
These questions will form the base from which an exploration of the fundamental principles within the Bhagavad Gītā and its links with Yoga and especially the Yoga Sūtra will be explored.
