Links to Teachings from Śrī T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar

A Reference list on teaching resources around Śrī T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar.

Today, my teachers 78th Birthday, is again one of mixed emotions and reflections on his life and although his mental and, I am led to believe, physical health is increasingly fragile these days, it’s hard to talk about honouring his birthday when I/we have no real idea as to how he actually is or even if he is in a condition to know about it, let alone appreciate birthday wishes and greetings from those around the world who care.

However within this poignant question of how or even where Desikachar is in himself, I remain eternally grateful for the intimacy and vitality of the years between 1979 and 2002 we shared together as teacher and pupil working within 121 lessons in his home, during my thirty plus study and practice stays in Madras.

From my first time of meeting and studying with Desikachar in England in 1976, I was also fortunate to be able to study at different points over those years, in Europe with his younger brother TK Sribhashyam and in Madras with two other long term students of Krishnamacharya, namely S Ramaswami and AG Mohan.

Also during my first decade of study in Madras I was privileged to experience the presence of his father and teacher Śrī T Krishnamacharya, through his living, practicing and teaching in the same house, attending his public lectures and demonstrations and several unique occasions of personal meetings and exchanges.

Now exactly 40 years on from my first moments as a student meeting a teacher I am happy to be able to continue to offer in the spirit of Guru Dakṣina, as open source resources to the worldwide Yoga community, those bits of the teachings I have so far managed to collate or transcribe through the Yoga Studies website.

With respect and thanks, amidst continuing concern for his well being, to TKV Desikachar for all that I received through his transmission of the teachings of T Krishnamacharya along with that of other students of Krishnamacharya and what these eminent teachers and their students have all offered to the world of Yoga.
