Common to Yoga is the Practice of Prāṇāyāma

Prāṇāyāma is seen as a means to engage the Élan Vital, the vital force or creative principle.
Whether working from the perspective of Patañjali,
where Prāṇāyāma was the primary Bahya Aṅga,
or from the perspective of Haṭha Yoga,
where you were taught to practice at each of the four transitional points in the day.
